Galloway Seeds Ltd. — Quality Seed Since 1946

Quality can't be left to chance

Our process is built around one simple goal — helping farms succeed today while helping advance agriculture for tomorrow. We are involved in every step, because quality cannot be left to chance. As farmers ourselves, we understand that the pedigreed seed we produce represents a season of hope, hard work, and risk — and we take that responsibility seriously.

Six steps behind every seed lot

From variety selection to the moment your truck crosses the scale — this is how a Galloway seed lot is made.

Careful variety selection & seed multiplication

Backed by careful research, planning, and real farming experience, we select varieties with the highest potential to perform in Alberta and Western Canadian conditions — then multiply and test them under real farm conditions to ensure dependable quality and performance.

Certified-ready fields

Our fields must meet strict standards and are inspected by third-party crop inspectors as part of the pedigreed seed process. These inspections help ensure varietal purity and confirm that every field meets production requirements.

Careful harvest, equipment cleaning & storage

Every stage of harvest and storage is handled to preserve seed quality, germination, and performance. Combines, trucks, grain carts, bins, augers, and handling equipment are thoroughly cleaned between every variety to maintain the highest degree of purity and prevent contamination.

Controlled seed cleaning

Our dedicated Registered Seed Cleaning Plant (Canadian Seed Institute), built in 2018, gives us direct control over every stage of cleaning. Seed passes through multiple machines and stages of impurity removal for a clean, high-purity final product farmers can trust.

Seed grading & laboratory testing

Every seed lot is graded and tested to meet certified seed standards. Our in-house certified seed graders, Jim and Erin, oversee grading while samples go to accredited laboratories for germination, vigour, and disease testing.

Seed treatment & final handling

Our certified in-house treatment and pulse inoculant specialists apply products accurately and consistently, with direct control over quality and purity right through final handling and loading. Seed can be treated on demand — straight from the bin onto your truck.

Put our plant and people to work for your farm

The same equipment, standards, and expertise behind our pedigreed seed are available to every farm — for your own seed too.

Seed Cleaning

A plant built for purity

Our dedicated seed cleaning plant is a Registered Seed Establishment with the Canadian Seed Institute (CSI), built to provide thorough, high-quality seed cleaning with careful attention to detail at every stage. Using multiple machines, cleaning stages, and continuous monitoring, Dan and Matt work to achieve the level of seed purity and quality that both we and our customers expect.

Seed cleaning services for farmers

You can have your own seed cleaned to the same high standards we use for Galloway Seeds pedigreed seed. We can't stress enough the value of clean seed for consistency, purity, and crop performance — with years of experience and a tightly managed process, we'd be glad to help you plant with confidence.

Seed Grading & Testing

Graded in-house, tested by accredited labs

As an essential part of our certified seed process, every seed lot we harvest is carefully graded and tested to help ensure strong germination, vigour, purity, and overall quality. Our certified in-house seed graders — Erin and Jim — maintain high standards and work closely with accredited laboratories to identify key diseases and performance parameters.

Important for your farm

Understanding the condition and quality of your seed is an important part of consistent crop performance — it lets you make informed management decisions and mitigation strategies when needed. We'd be happy to have your seed cleaned, graded, and tested.

Important for crop success

Proper seed treatment and pulse inoculation can be an important part of strong crop establishment. Seed Expertise & Support

Farmers helping farmers

Good seed is only part of the equation — experience, knowledge, and practical support matter too. One of the things customers value most is the ability to connect with Dan Visser and our team of experienced farmers. As our operations director, Dan brings a deep understanding of pedigreed seed production, agronomy, farming economics, equipment, technology, commodity markets, and crop planning.
